Partnership with Bavarian Radio
Through broadcast concerts and studio recordings, the Orchestra and Bavarian Radio benefit each other and have gained an international reputation. Issued on CD by prestigious labels, their productions have raised both partners’ global profiles. BR KLASSIK’s own schedule has been greatly enriched by the Orchestra’s performances, whether of unusual repertoire or with outstanding guest artists.
Each season, BR KLASSIK selects 6 concerts by Bamberg Symphony Orchestra – Bavarian State Philharmonic, to be recorded live and transmitted at a later date. This allows BR KLASSIK listeners to enjoy a representative sample of Bamberg’s concert life with ‘the Bambergers’, which also reaches a world-wide audience via various distribution channels. In addition, Bavarian Radio invites the Orchestra to record works by composers of all periods for broadcast on BR KLASSIK, including works as yet unheard by concert-goers.
BR is dedicated to promoting talented young musicians, and by pairing aspiring conductors and soloists with the Bamberg Symphony, gives them a chance to gain valuable first experience with a world-class orchestra. The names of Robin Ticciati, Pietari Inkinen, David Afkham and others are now well-known on the international concert scene.
During the 2013/2014 season, Mahler’s Symphonies No.6 and No.8 will be issued on CD by TUDOR, crowning its now completed Mahler cycle and marking the successful culmination of one of the most ambitious joint projects ever undertaken by the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra – Bavarian State Philharmonic and Bavarian Radio.
The new season sees the launch of a new production with Robin Ticciati, ‘the Bambergers’ and the BR Choir: Bruckner’s great Mass in f minor. Robin Ticciati will also lead the Orchestra in a recording of Dvořák’s Symphony No.9 ‘From the New World’, a co-production between BR KLASSIK and TUDOR.
Among other new projects, BR KLASSIK’s broadcasts will include tone poems and symphonies by Siegmund von Hausegger and Karl Weigl, recorded by the Bavarian State Philharmonic. Hausegger taught Eugen Jochum and held several leading posts, including that of Principal Conductor of the Munich Philharmonic. Weigl moved in the same circles as Gustav Mahler and Arnold Schoenberg, and his works were performed by conductors of the stature of Wilhelm Furtwängler and George Szell.
