Partnership with Bavarian Radio
The Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, recently honoured with the title of Bavarian State Philharmonic, has for decades enjoyed a close cooperation with Bavarian Radio.
For Bavarian Radio, the main advantage of this partnership is the chance to broadcast live or to record concerts of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra. Not only does this bring a much wider audience, far beyond the borders of Bamberg’s historic region of Franconia; it also enriches the Radio’s own schedules with the Orchestra’s stimulating programming and internationally renowned guest artists.
The other side of this cooperation brings the Orchestra out of the concert hall and into the Bavarian Radio studios, with three aims:
- documenting the internationally renowned work of Principal Conductor Jonathan Nott in archive recordings
- giving young conductors and soloists the chance to work with one of Europe’s finest ensembles
- recording unknown or neglected music of the highest quality for the Radio’s own archives
Several of these co-productions between Bavarian Radio and the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra have been issued commercially by Tudor Recording AG of Switzerland on CD and SACD – please see our page devoted to the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra’s CDs.
