Audience and critics were thrilled
At the last Gustav Mahler Conducting Competition in June 2013 Lahav Shani filled the audience with enthusiasm - and so did he recently in three concerts (watch him rehearse here) in which he had stepped in for Gustavo Dudamel. Also the critics were raving about him. The "Frankfurter Neue Presse" praised his "feeling and sensitivity" and his "having a knack for the subtle passages". "It has been a Mahler of high sound temperature thanks to a young conducting hothead whom the audience celebrates like a pop star", wrote the "Offenbach Post". The "Fränkische Tag" regards Lahav Shani as an "exceptional talent" and concludes: "The jury took an excellent decision in June."
The Bamberg Symphony Orchestra and Principal Conductor Jonathan Nott have recently finished a project that they've been working on for almost ten years: The recording of all completed symphonies of Gustav Mahler (listen now). By publishing symphonies No. 6 and No. 8 in September 2013, the cycle is finally completed. Some of the recordings have been awarded international prizes as the MIDEM Classical Award. All recordings of the cycle have been published by the label TUDOR, a partner of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra for many years now that has already published almost 50 CDs of the orchestra, and in cooperation with the Bayerischer Rundfunk, partner of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra since the 1950s. ‘What are we on this earth for?’ A simple question, but very difficult to answer. One thing I do feel, often, is that music reflects mankind. When that happens, sounds become symbols for experiences which show us the meaning of our existence. But it isn’t only we musicians who have such moments. It is our public that makes us who we are. That’s why we feel it our special duty to give audiences only our best.
