Cornelius Heine, Germany

After attending school in Cologne, Cornelius Heine studied in Munich, Detmold and Amsterdam. Born in Geseke (North Rhine-Westphalia) in 1977, he counts among his teachers the pianists Anatol Ugorski and Irwin Gage, as well as Hermann Michael, from whose conducting class in Munich he graduated.

 

He completed his training by attending courses at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival and the ‘Interaktion’ Conducting Workshop in Berlin. He was holder of a scholarship from the Foundation for Art and Culture of North Rhine-Westphalia.

 

 

In 1999 Cornelius Heine founded the Westphalian Vocal Ensemble. He has assisted James Levine with several projects in Munich, and Christian Thielemann with his new production of Wagner’s Ring in Bayreuth. For the 2002/2003 season he was engaged by Lothar Zagrosek at the Staatsoper in Stuttgart, where he also assisted Stefan Soltesz and Raymond Leppard. From 2003 to 2006 Cornelius Heine was Kapellmeister in Coburg and from 2006 to 2009 worked at the Hessisches Staatstheater in Wiesbaden.
