The Bamberg Symphony Orchestra / Bavarian State Philharmonic is redoubling its efforts to reach especially young listeners. In 2007 an EducationTeam was picked from the ranks of the Orchestra to work alongside the Orchestra management and Chief Conductor Jonathan Nott on special projects for teenagers and children. You can read about some of these projects here – and you’ll see the results reflected in the future programming of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra / Bavarian State Philharmonic.
During its tours the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra / Bavarian State Philharmonic has presented several concerts specially for children, for instance at the Beijing Music Festivals and the world-famous Lucerne Festival.
For several years now the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra / Bavarian State Philharmonic has also given student concerts, which have gained cult status. From the 2010/11 season on, they will not only offer youth concerts but also a special "Schüler-Abo" (five subscription concerts at a price of EUR 30,-). Additionally, further concerts in Bamberg and the region are planned.
In partnership with several Bamberg schools and kindergartens, we have welcomed groups of children to Orchestra rehearsals; as well as having instruments demonstrated to them, they’ve been allowed into the Orchestra’s "secret world" – dressing rooms, instrument stores and backstage. You can download more details about open rehearsals here.
It’s been great fun for everyone, even the kindergarten groups. We’ve specially tailored the music and the length of the rehearsal visits for the tinies! Interested? Feel free to get in touch!
Since October 2009, as part of our Education Programme, we will be visiting classrooms with chamber music groups to collaborate with local music teachers on course modules. This activity is also a cooperation with the model project Kultur.Klassen, initialized by the city of Bamberg.
In the week from 19 to 23 July 2010, around 80 pupils from three Bamberg high schools focused in a workshop on Gustav Mahler's "Song from the Earth" in the chamber version of Arnold Schönberg. They were guided by music educator Martin Sieveking and musicians of the Bamberg Symphony "EducationTeam". The results of this workshop were presented in the course of the Biennale Bamberg 2010 in a final matinee concert on Sunday, 25 July 2010 in Bamberg's E.T.A.-Hoffmann-Theatre.
