The staging points in Elizabeth Askren’s training as a conductor and pianist were Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson (New York), the École Normale de Musique and Schola Cantorum in Paris, the Oberlin Conservatory of Music (Ohio) and New York’s Juilliard School.
Born in 1976 in New York City, she attended master classes with Lorin Maazel, Marin Alsop and at the Vendôme International Conducting Academy.
Since 2006 Elizsabeth Askren has been Music Director of Orchestre 2021, an ensemble specialising in contemporary music which she also founded, and since 2004 has collaborated with the Fondation des Etats-Unis in Paris. She has assisted David Stern conducting ensembles such as Concerto Köln and Opera Fuoco; Bernard Labadie at the Aldeburgh Easter Festival; the Orchestre Promethée; and – under John Nelson – the Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, which she guest-conducted in premieres of works by Aubert Lemeland in 2009.
