Francesco Lanzillotta, Italy

Francesco Lanzillotta was born in Rome in 1977 and studied at the Conservatorio Santa Cecilia. Further stages in his artistic development included master classes under Harold Farberman at the Conductors Institute of Bard College, Gianluigi Gelmetti at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana and George Pehlivanian in Madrid.

As well as conducting, he is especially drawn to composing; his works have won several prizes, including those of the Fondazione Valentino Bucchi (2005), the Concorso Internazionale di Composizione Nino Rota (2007) and the Fontane di Roma Prize (2007).

Among the orchestras which Francesco Lanzillotta has conducted are the Roma Sinfonietta, the Orchestra di Roma e del Lazio and the Florence Chamber Orchestra. As conductor he has mounted several rarely heard works by earlier masters such as Nicola Sala, Cimarosa and Alessandro Rolla, as well as much contemporary music. In 2008 he was awarded the Enap Prize in recognition of his work as a conductor.
