Starting in 2010-2011, the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra – Bavarian State Philharmonic is giving special support to the training of a new generation of musicians by founding an Orchestral Academy. Highly gifted young instrumentalists up to 26 years of age are invited to apply for this training course. After successfully passing their audition and probation period, during the two-year Academy they will experience the daily life of a professional orchestra, work with high-calibre conductors and soloists and enjoy one-to-one coaching by mentors drawn from the Bambergers’ ranks – an ideal way to gain familiarity with orchestral repertoire and the artistic demands of working in a professional orchestra.
With its eyes firmly on the future, the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra / Bavarian State Philharmonic has in recent years developed a wide repertoire and refined even further its unmistakable sonic profile. The Academy will offer students both financial support and a springboard to an international orchestral career, while giving the Orchestra a chance to train a new generation of players according to its own lights and to replenish its ranks with young talent – in fact, one ideal outcome of a successful Academy would be for graduates to move straight into the Orchestra, benefiting all parties.
On 9th May 2013, 3.30 pm there will be a masterclass with string academists and the pianist Leon Fleisher at Bamberg Concerthall which is open to the public.
