Season 2011/2012 - Concert Tours

As "Bavaria’s Cultural Ambassador to the World", the Bamberg Symphony – Bavarian State Philharmonic is an ever welcome guest in the great concert halls of the home and international music scene. In the 2011/12 season, the orchestra will return to a number of prestigious festivals and well-known concert halls. One of the season highlights is the Bamberg Symphony’s and Jonathan Nott’s third invitation to the Edinburgh International Festival, where they will perform three concerts including the closing concert as "orchestra in residence".

 

Furthermore, the Concertgebouw in Bruges as well as the Cologne Philharmonie  will open their anniversary seasons – 10 years in Bruges and 25 in Cologne – with performances of the Bamberg Symphony. In year 65 after its foundation, the orchestra will also return to the place of its origin and play at the Dvořák Festival in Prague.

 

In May 2012, the Bamberg Symphony will return to the US to perform in New York and Long Island.The orchestra will also appear at prestigious concert halls and well-known festivals such as the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, where the Bamberg Symphony is a regular guest, the Konzerthaus Dortmund, the Philharmonie Essen, the Philharmonie am Gasteig in Munich, the Alte Oper Frankfurt, the Liederhalle Stuttgart, the Laeiszhalle Hamburg, the Kuppelsaal Hannover, the Stadtcasino Basel, as well as the Rheingau Musik Festival, the Festival de Música de Canarias, and the Braunschweig Classix Festival.

“The Oistrakh of today” (Süddeutsche Zeitung), Frank Peter Zimmermann is at home in all the world’s concert halls and sets new standards with his interpretations. And he has been a regular with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra for many years. This season he will be appearing in the cathedral city as Artist In Residence, with an exciting and demanding selection from the violin repertoire.
