Seokwon Hong, South Korea

Seokwon Hong, born in Daegu (South Korea) in 1982, graduated from the Seoul State University conductors’ course in 2007 and continued his training in Berlin at the Hanns Eisler Music Academy with Christian Ehwald, complementing his conducting studies with master classes under Myung-Whun Chung, Bernard Haitink and Ulrich Windfuhr.

 

In 2008 he took part in the ‘Interaktion’ Conducting Workshop in Berlin and in 2009 won a grant-assisted place in the German Music Council’s Conductors’ Forum.

 

In 2005 Seokwon Hong was a finalist in the international Conducting Competition in Suwon (South-Korea) and in 2008 won 3rd Prize at the 4th Students’ Conducting Competition in Berlin, where he conducted the Berlin Konzerthaus Orchestra in the final. Other orchestras he has conducted during courses or competitions include the Lucerne Festival Strings, the Brandenburg Symphony Orchestra, the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn, the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra and MDR Symphony Orchestra.
