In 2008, the Japanese acoustician Yasuhisa Toyota masterminded the extremely successful optimisation of the acoustics of Bamberg’s concert hall, home of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra / Bavarian State Philharmonic. In 2009, the hall itself has been renovated and the foyer area extended by architects Mietusch & Partner, based on a concept by Hamburg designer Professor Peter Schmidt.

Read more about the objectives and financing of the construction project. See our image gallery and computer simulations to compare the present interior and exterior of the hall and foyer, the new extensions and the plaza, with their former appearance before the completion in December 2009.

Our time-lapse photo sequence charted the progress of the building work from start to finish, in 10-minute steps, day by day and week by week, giving you an eyewitness view of a project which is vital not just for the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra and the Concert and Congress Centre but for the city as a whole.
